Optimization of biomethane processing and injection to gas networks

One of the ways of using biogas is its treatment and then injection into the gas network in the form of biomethane. IT support for biomethane plant operators in this regard is provided by means of a tool optimizing the treatment process and injection of biomethane into the gas network.

The system layer, responsible for the optimization of technical treatment processes and the utilization of biogas, aims to minimize operating costs, taking into account the relevant limitations of the installation. Thanks to the optimal work scheduling of individual equipment and real-time control of the parameters of energy-intensive processes, the system will ensure minimization of costs while meeting the technological requirements for each process. In the case of injecting biomethane into the gas network, optimization takes place during biogas treatment stage, along with possible further stages of compression and cooling of the compressed biomethane.

The technical conditions that will potentially affect the management of the operation of biomethane injection units are the permissible calorific value and Wobbe index, according the relevant regulations and provisions in contracts with end customers. Other important technical factors are the throughput of the treatment plant, the volume of the intermediate biomethane storage tank, the minimum and maximum throughput of the compression unit. Depending on the above-mentioned conditions and limitations, the optimizer will be able to propose an optimal work schedule for the compressor unit in order to minimize its operational cost and extend its lifetime. In addition, for installations with the planned operation of multiple compressors, the optimizer will be able to distribute the load between available equipment in real time based on the measured energy consumption values.
