Optimization of hydrogen injection to gas networks

Implementation of technical processes, related to the dispersed injection of hydrogen to gas networks will be an important aspect of gas networks operation in the near future One of crucial tasks is maintaining the permissible concentrations of hydrogen in natural gas and hydrogen mixture, which may vary in each network segment, while maintaining the continuity of supplies of the mixture with the required quality parameters.

To precisely handle this issue, it is possible to use a network model that takes into account mixing of hydrogen with natural gas and inhomogeneous distribution of such mixture. The IT solution of Transition Technologies provides the possibility of using both own models and models from external suppliers in this respect.

The multi-layered IT product for optimizing the injection of hydrogen into the grid is part of a larger system for managing and optimizing the operation of the transmission grids, GTSOpt. This product allows for optimal management of local distributed hydrogen injection installations with changing demand for natural gas and hydrogen in the network, taking into account the technical limitations of transmission installation sections and modeled or measured gas concentrations at individual injection points.

The results include optimal operating points for individual equipment of the units injecting hydrogen into the gas networks. The operation of equipment is aimed at minimizing the operating costs of the group of hydrogen injection units connected to the network. In addition, this system can be extended with models of installations for hydrogen production, ensuring that all the most important components of linear and distributed installations are taken into account.
